WHAT IS RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS?

Rhythmic Gymnastics is a beautiful blend of dance and gymnastics, combined with vividly coloured hand-held apparatus such as ribbons, balls, hoops, ropes, flags, etc. Gymnasts within this sport can develop increased coordination, flexibility and poice, while enjoying choreography set to different types of music.

Alpha Rhythmic Gymnastics Club is currently in its second decade of operation. It began with one coach, 10 gymnasts and a strong parent support group. Now the club has grown substantially. We have increased our coaching staff and and the variety of programs we can offer!!

Gymnasts wll be taught skills from the PRISM program and will receive a progress report describing the skills taught. Throughout the fun-filled sessions, the gymnasts will learn several skills that will culminate in a one or more routines which will be performed at an "AlphaFest" at the end of each season!

Ladies Leisure Program: It is a lot of fun! A great work-out, a laugh or two (depending on how coordinated you are that night) and a lot of personal satisfaction when you master a new skill. COME AND TRY IT OUT!

Sprites Special Olympics: Together with the Edmonton Special Olympics, this group of gymnasts train once a week and learn non-competitive performance routines.

We have programs for EVERYONE!

The sole purpose of the club is to develop the sport of rhythmic gymnastics through the development of confidence, teamwork and competent skills. Through this formula participants become gymnasts with a love for the sport. It takes a team of paid staff and dedicated parents to make this work.

The volunteer Board of Directors is accountable to the Societies Act, Rhythmic Gymnastics Alberta and the Alberta Gaming Commission. TheBoard of Directors is responsible for hiring the best coaching and support staff available, managing the administration of the club and providing the volunteer support necessary for the gymnasts to participate in athletic events.

The Board of Directors ensures that each gymnast is fully registered with the club and the provincial association. Each Coach is responsible for providing a safe, fun and progressive learning environment to gymnasts registered in their assigned class or team.

Every ALPHA Gymnast is a WINNER!!

ALPHA'S Club Motto is Achieving Life-long Proficiency and Healthy, Happy Athletes. This club maintains its distinction as a non-competitive club. Our philosophy is "Excellence without Judgment". Gymnasts are challenged to achieve their full potential in this sport without the unnecessary stress of competition. Any athlete that wants to fully participate is given the support needed to achieve their goals and dreams within the sport. In this environment, the club's desire to foster a love for life long active living in each gymnast is achieved.

PRISM PROGRAM

Within our programs we have incorporated the Rhythmic Gymnastics PRISM program! Similar to the swimming badge program, gymnasts work at different skill levels on both apparatus and free skills. At the end of your child's session you will receive a report card and a pin at the level your child has attained. As a parent you will be able to see what skills your child has learned and what level they can achieve within our programs!

This program was developed within Alberta and is now accepted as a Nation wide program! Congratulations to all of our gymnasts in working so hard at reaching the different levels of the PRISM program! Alpha Rhythmic Gymnastics Club is also very fortunate that its Executive Director is on the PRISM revision committee, and Alpha will be one of the first clubs to pilot the new revised program in September.

Volunteer Recruitment Underway

Alpha Rhythmic Gymnastics Club (ARGC) is a non profit organization.

ARGC recognizes that our volunteers play a critical role in the continued success of our program. We need dedicated parents to fill the positions of not only Board of Director positions, but also numerous positions throughout the year to guarantee the continued success of the many events hosted by Alpha. Although some of these positions require only minimal time investment, they are crucial to the operation of the club. Through volunteering you get the satisfaction of making a difference in your child's sport and your community as well as having a great time with other volunteers.

Should you have any skills, suggestions, or simply the initiative to make a difference, please do not hesitate to contact us at 686 - CLUB (2582) or via e-mail at alphagymstiks@hotmail.com. We welcome any comments or suggestions you may have.

Club Performance Festivals

Alpha sponsors a minimum of two performances featuring its entire programs, twice a calendar year. This is the opportunity for each class to proudly showcase to their family and friends what they have accomplished during the session.

Alpha's annual WINTERFEST will be scheduled in early December. SPRINGFEST will be scheduled in April or early May. The date and time will be announced once details are finalized. These are "Family centered performances" and all family members and friends are encouraged to support our gymnasts by attending and appreciating the hard work our club members have invested. BRING YOUR CAMERA AND SHOW YOUR PRIDE! You do not want to miss this gala of gymnasts!

To our new members and returning gymnasts - WE HAVE AN AWESOME OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU! In early October we will be hosting a team of 34 gymnasts from Denmark. We will host a gala and have workshop opportunities for our registered gymnasts. Watch for upcoming bulletins regarding this event!!

Costs

The Board of Directors has kept the registration fees consistent with last year. The registration fee covers the cost of instruction, the use of club equipment, and the rental of facilities for special events. Fees must be paid in full at the time of registration. Unpaid fees result in a loss of club membership and withdrawal from classes.

Registration Fees are non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances. Refunds will be pro-rated based on the percentage of the season completed.
N.S.F. Fee of $30.00 will be charged for each invalid cheque.

Class Attire

Leggings or sweatpants and a t -shirt are appropriate for classes. The gymnasts will be stretching and moving during each class in order to become more aware of their bodies and abilities, so please be sure class attire is appropriate and not restricting.

For our performances, you are required to purchase a Royal Blue Leotard (Mondor Style- Scoop Neck, Long sleeve). Various dance apparel stores carry the leotard, such a Shirley Potters, On Stage; however, Adagio Dance and Skate apparel (114-15333 Castle Downs Rd NW Edmonton AB), has offered Alpha members a 10% discount off their purchase. Boys are required to wear the Alpha t-shirt and black or navy blue shorts for performances.

Alpha also has a Club T-shirt required by its members! These are made available for purchase on registration evenings, and by phoning the club line at 686-2582, T-shirts may be purchased for $12.00.

ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD OR DRINK IS PERMITTED IN THE GYM, OTHER THAN A WATER BOTTLE.

Parent Viewing

Parents are asked not to watch from inside the gymnasiums. Special viewing days will be scheduled during the course of the program. Gymnasts are also asked not to bring their friends to 'watch' their class or wait for them in the school, unless it is a scheduled Bring a Friend day!

Your Coaching Staff

Alpha recognizes that our coaches play a critical role in the personal and athletic development of each gymnast. Our coaches are highly qualified and have valuable Performance and also in some cases, Competitive experience. Their combined knowledge of the sport is vast, creating one of the best programs available. We are very proud of our coaches and the level of training provided by them.

Each Coach has a minimum qualification of Coaching Level 1 through the National Coaching Certification Program and the St. John's First Aid Course.

The club supports our coaches by offering opportunities for upgrading qualifications and providing performance evaluations.

Alpha also offers a unique opportunity for younger gymnasts ages 12-16 who express an interest in coaching to become a Jr. Coach in our mentoring program.
